Animal Abusers beware, hunt is on
The Straits Times 20 august 2006

I am delighted to know that the animal activists are taking more action to pin down animal abuser with nightly patrols and cctv cameras. I feel that this is an excellent idea. Being a animal lover myself, I feel that the animal abuser should be dealt more serverly as these animals also have lives, just like us. Moreover instead of just writing in how angry they felt about such actions committed by someone, they took real actions against these people. In my point of view, I feel that these people who abused the animals should be jailed for a longer term such that they will learn their lesson and not commit the mistake twice.

Above 55 and still working
THE STRAITS TIMES WEDNESDAY, AUGUST9, 2006
its a positive trend, but labor chief Lim Boon Heng wants more to be hired. I feel that this is a good way to make people feel wanted. Instead of ligering round void decks, the government is giving the people the opportunities to work, earn some income for themselves instead of relying on the government and their children. Moreover Singapore is facing a ageing trend and the life expectancy is growing. The labor chief also tried to abolish the stereotype thinking set by the employers that only the younger ones can out do the old one.

Too many cabs, not enough drivers
THE STRAITS TIMES WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 9, 2006

after some 4000 new taxis were added to the fleet in the past 2 years when the industry was open to competition, Singapore taxi population is retreating for the first time. I had a shock when this article was being published. This is because I didn't expect that fewer people want to drive cabs these days. The only reason that I can think of is because the economy is improving hence there are more job option for the unemployed. There were suggestions to hire foreign drivers but the only worrying issue is that it may be difficult to prosecute them for offence should they abscond form Singapore after committing the offence. She may be right but isn't this unfair for the foreigners whom wished to get out of poverty to seek for jobs? I feel that they should compromise regarding this issue.

Man used false address to get illegal loans
THE STRAITS TIMES WEDESDAY, AUGUST 9, 2006
HIS INNOCENT NEIGHBOUR BECAME TARGET OF LOAN SHARKS. when i heard about the incident i was disgusted about how people can do this onto others. i mean how would the guy feel if his ex neighbour did on him instead of the other way around. the guy was being heartless and acted with total and callous disregard for the safety of others. i feel that he deserved his two weeks of jail terms as this should teach him a lesson.

PAY MORE IF YOU WANT TO RIDE IN COMFORT
the new paper July 4 , 2006
I was infuriated when I first heard about this. I do not deny for the fact that I am a regular "cab taker". With this rise in the price in cab fares, I was affected. One of the reason that they give was it was due to the rise in the petrol cost and such that they need to cover cost. The two consoling thing that they can give is better service and no peak surcharge on Saturdays. This does not help me in any other way as I normally take cab to school and Saturday, my parents can drop me to school if there are extra lessons being conducted.

DBS is trying out this gadget to fight card fraud
the Sunday times, June 25, 2006

Plastic inhibitor makes it hard for thieves to install card-skimming devices on an ATM. I applaud for the extra effort that the bank put in into making it less possible for thieves to penetrate into the account and hack into the machine. I feel that today's Theives have been relatively sophisicated and well prepared. Hence I feel that banks, and any other companies that contain confidential information of customers should keep up with today's technology, always changing the gadets as there aren't foul proof. If not, there isn't any point. On the other hand, I feel that we got to thank the thieves as I feel that its the crime that the thieves commit that made us reflect and improve ourselves in the technology aspect

High oil prices slow demand
The Straits Times,Wednesday,June 14 2006

I feel that this is going to happen. From what we all know, oil is not a replaceable resource as it takes million of years to form from organic bodies. Yet human have been using it as though it is some replaceable resources. Take brunei for an example, they possess so much oil that they used oil like water. Now the amount of oil barrels being sold a day has dropped in many countries as many can't afford it anymore. I feel that its such a pity that countries now are trying to scrimp and save the remaining oil that is left on this earth. I feel that expertise should have tried warning countries about the limited amount of oil instead of trying to exaggerate the amount left on this earth...

SQ11 goes up again 2km from touchdown
THE STRAITS TIMES SATURDAY JULY 29, 2006
Singapore Airlines flight SQ11 was about to land at changi airport when the pilot told passengers he had to take the plane up because there was another aircraft still on the runway. i felt that it was the right thing to do as at no time was safety compromised. This is a good practice as it ensured many hundreds of passengers' safety. This is the most basic thing that a pilot should do. I hope many more of such pilots will show such potential.

She didn't follow family's advice-and got killed
The Sunday Times,Sunday,August 13 2006
A girl in Johor Baru was advised not to walk to her workplace but did not heed the advice given by the government and in the end she was killed. This incident happened after the prime minister ordered the police to set up patrols to make the country safer. From this article we can clearly see that this girl has taken the safety of her country for granted. However from this article, I have reflected on how the locals in Singapore have taken the safety for granted. If one were to ask any singaporean if singapore is a safe country, they would gladly say that it is one of the best country. Even if one day we are being attacked by the terrorists, many people would just stay at home. Their mentality would have been switched to," why worry, the government will settle it."

Schools for would-be Joscelins and Jia Weis.
THE STRAITS TIMES SATURDAY JULY29, 2006

after reading this interesting article, I felt that it is nothing great about being a student in a sports schools. This is because they are only let out on Friday night and have to book in on Sunday night. This felt more like an army camp rather than a school. However this caused the students there to be very discipline. One said that discipline is a must if you want to be a good sportsman, so is making and cleaning your bed. I was amazed as many secondary students are still living in a protected environment under their parents' wings.
there is something in which I felt that these students can never be like those studying in a normal school where the importance for sports and academic are equal. The students are so used to being cheered on that they do not know how to cheer for others. The councilors of the sports school have to improvise cheers on plastic cards to rally 80 students sitting on the stand. Yet they just barely whimpered compared to the vociferous ACS boys and the RI boys.
