Lift fine for those who don't vote
FORUM The Straits Times, may 2, 2006
I feel that it is necessary to lift the fines. This is because I feel that the government should not force the citizens to vote. Voting is all about giving your support to the candidate that you think can help to upgrade your area. If one feels that the candidates running for the area are unsuitable and unreliable, how can you force one to vote for either one. If the government really want to impose fines, they should impose a heavily fine and not a mere $5. It was because of this trivial money, many people do not see the need to vote and consider the candidate carefully.
