How the Internet Killed the Phone Business
The Economist Magazine
September 17th 2005

Currently, there is a software that threatens to override traditional telephones, and it is called “voice over internet protocol” which is a software that allows people to make free calls to other users using the similar program, for free, over the internet, and very cheap calls to traditional telephones. I feel that this is a brilliant idea, as it allows people to stay connected in a much cheaper way. It brings friends living in different countries closer together, as they would be able to have a live conversation, without paying phone bills. However, there is a negative side to this. I feel that this new “voice over internet protocol” technology would disrupt and undermine incumbent telephone operators. However, in conclusion, I would have to stick with the benefits of using VOIP as it seems to be more practical and worth while for the end user.
